Wifely Timing (2 comments)

Friday evening, Mel and I had just loaded up her car for a weekend trip to Chicago, and she said to me:

"Oh, and since you're driving, you can finally hear the weird sound that the engine's been making."

Civil Rights (2 comments)

Mike recently wrote that "gay is the new black."

I've found his take to be unfortunately sensible and now, every time I hear someone say that Obama's win is the ultimate victory for the civil rights movement, I find I want to correct them. That was the first civil rights movement, and we're in the midst of another one now, even if it's not being celebrated as such.

The Cat Hunt Is Off (2 comments)

Does anyone remember that one time a cat attacked our screen? We caught him (exactly two and a half years later).

Scruffed Cat Caged Cat

"Boots" (as Mel calls him) has been around occasionally since the incident with the adorably shredded screen, but (smartly) always stayed well away from us.

We've been lazy recently and have left the garage's crawlspace access open. It appears that last Tuesday evening, Boots made his way down there and got trapped when the garage door was closed. Every morning since, we've been greeted with fresh footprints on our cars. It wasn't until tonight, when I found myself on an unrelated errand to the crawlspace, that I found it to be the same cat who had caused us trouble in the past. We flushed him from the crawlspace, closed off the opening, and found him in the undercarriage of Mel's car. From there, it was a quick matter to grab him, gloat, and put him in the box.

He's got food and water for the night. We'll take him to Animal Control in the morning. After that, I'll be too busy watching election coverage to worry about a stray cat.

[Update: 9:37 pm]

Aww *hell* no!

It's visible on one of the original photos above that there's a latch on the carrier that wasn't fully clasped, so Boots was able to push the door from its mount. But things are under control again:

Back behind bars

I Voted (Again) (0 comments)

I voted

I'm proud to say that I've now voted for Barack Obama in two general elections.

Brian's Teachings (1 comment)

Brian has recently introduced me to two things that it seems everyone else should know about as well:

  1. Steak 'n Shake will put cherry syrup in orange Fanta soda. It tastes like candy.
  2. Clone High is quite funny. I'm disappointed that I heard nothing of it when it aired.
